by Jen Hopkins

Stretch marks are one of the most annoying blemishes that can form on the skin. Aside from being really ugly to look at, they are also very hard to prevent. Some of these are even formed while you were not yet conscious about your body as you were still too young, as these are usually formed during puberty. Other marks are may be formed during pregnancy and these are also very hard to prevent.

Stretch marks are not only hard to prevent, but they are also harder to get rid off compared to normal scars. This is because they form on the underlying layer of the skin which makes them harder to reach. When the skin stretches too far, it is the dermal layer of the skin that tears, so the resulting scars will also form on this layer. You will still need to go through the outer layer of the skin before you can reach the inside.

Since a lot of people do not want seeing these stretch marks on their skin, there have been many ways developed as to how they can be removed. One of the more common ways that people employ in removing these marks is through the use of scar removal creams. This is because people treat these marks as scars and believe that removal creams will also work on them.

One downside to the use of scar removal creams is that they are made for scars on the surface of the skin. This may make them less effective for scars under the surface of the skin. It might be better to use creams that are specifically made for stretch marks as you are sure that it targets the dermal layer of the skin.

Creams may be the easiest way to get rid of these marks, but they are not the most effective. Laser treatment is one of the most effective as it involves burning away of the scar tissue left behind on the skin. This ensures that the scar is completely removed and your body will be left to regenerate new skin cells to fill in the space left behind by the scar.

In addition to laser treatments, microdermabrasion and cosmetic surgery are also good ways to get rid of scars. This is because they remove scars similarly to laser treatments. They either mechanically of chemically remove the scar so that none is left on your skin. When your skin regenerates, no visible scar will be left behind.

There are also home remedies that you can try if these procedures are too expensive for you. You can try applying creams such as cocoa butter to help moisturize and increase your skin's elasticity. Using Vitamins A and E on your skin is also a practice done by a lot of people. Lastly, massaging may also help in breaking down scar tissue before it becomes permanent.

Even though scars caused by excessive stretching of the skin may be very hard to prevent, there are many ways that you can use to get rid of these scars. You can choose from a lot of different ways to get rid of your scars, whether you want to remove them completely, or just lighten them enough so that they won't be easily visible.
